The weeks of planning and waiting are over, and your impact window installation day is approaching. Taking some simple preparation steps before the crew arrives ensures the installation goes smoothly, protects your belongings, and helps the installers work efficiently. Here is a comprehensive preparation guide that we recommend to all of our South Florida customers before their installation day.
Start by clearing the area around every window and door that will be replaced. Move furniture, electronics, artwork, and decorative items at least four to six feet away from each opening. This gives the installation crew safe working space and protects your belongings from dust and minor debris that is inevitable during window removal and installation. Take down curtains, blinds, and window treatments, and store them safely in another room. If you have heavy or built-in items that cannot be easily moved, cover them with protective sheeting.
On the exterior of your home, clear landscaping, potted plants, and outdoor furniture away from the walls where windows will be installed. The crew will need access to the exterior of every opening, and having a clear work zone prevents damage to your landscaping and gives them room to safely handle the large glass panels. If you have a security alarm system with window sensors, contact your alarm company to disable or reprogram the sensors on the openings being replaced, as the existing sensors will be removed with the old windows.
Plan for the noise, dust, and temporary loss of window openings during the installation. While the crew works quickly to minimize the time any opening is exposed, there will be periods when exterior air and noise enter your home. If you have pets, confine them to a room away from the work area where they will be safe and comfortable. Consider making arrangements for young children during the busiest parts of the installation. Ensure the crew has access to a bathroom and a clear path to carry windows from their truck to each opening in your home.
